8pc Double Cut Carbide Rotary Burr Set: USA Made, 1/4″ Shank
Every shop has a drawer of random burrs. This set replaces it. We hand-picked the eight carbide burrs that do most of the real work, all double cut, all made in the USA, and gave them a case where every one has its own slot. At Drill Bit Warehouse we are just a BIT more twisted about cutting tools, and this set shows it.
Four shapes, two sizes each, zero filler.

Know Your Shapes
- SA cylinder (no end cut). The flat, toothless end rides against a surface without gouging it. Use it to square up edges, clean inside right-angle corners and dress flat surfaces.
- SC ball nose cylinder. The workhorse. The rounded tip blends into fillets and contours without leaving a hard step, so it’s the first one you grab for weld cleanup.
- SD ball. Use it for concave work, hollows, coves and port runners. The 1/4″ gets into tight spots and the 1/2″ opens up big radii fast.
- SF tree (radius end). Use it for rounding edges, blending into tight inside radii and contour work where a cylinder is too blunt.
Why Double Cut
A single cut burr has one set of right-hand flutes. It cuts aggressively, but it throws long chips and can grab. Double cut adds a second set of left-hand flutes that cross the first, so every tooth becomes a small diamond-shaped point. You get smaller chips, less pulling and chatter, better control in the hand and a smoother finish, while stock still comes off fast. That’s why double cut is the go-to all-purpose pattern for most metalwork.
What It Cuts
- Carbon and alloy steel: weld beads, flame-cut edges, burrs and scale.
- Stainless steel: run at the lower end of the speed range with light pressure to keep the heat down.
- Cast iron and castings: fettling, gate and riser cleanup, blending parting lines.
- Hardened steel: carbide will cut where HSS tools give up. Go slower and lighter.
- Brass, bronze and copper: cuts clean.
- Aluminum (use caution): soft, gummy aluminum can pack the teeth of any double cut burr. For heavy aluminum work, use our Alumi-Cut burrs, which have wide flutes made to shed aluminum.

Speed Guide
Smaller heads need more RPM. Run too slow and the teeth chip. Run too fast and they wear and overheat. Starting points for standard-length burrs:
| Head Diameter | Steel | Stainless / Hardened Steel |
|---|---|---|
| 1/4″ (SA-1, SC-1, SD-1, SF-1) | 45,000 – 60,000 RPM | 30,000 – 45,000 RPM |
| 3/8″ (SA-3, SC-3, SF-3) | 30,000 – 40,000 RPM | 19,000 – 30,000 RPM |
| 1/2″ (SD-5) | 22,500 – 30,000 RPM | 15,000 – 22,500 RPM |
Shop tips: Keep the burr moving with light, steady pressure and let the teeth do the cutting. Don’t bury more than about a third of the head in the work. Don’t let it overheat. Always wear eye and face protection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will these fit my die grinder?
Yes. All eight have a 1/4″ shank, which fits standard 1/4″ collet die grinders, both air and electric.
Double cut or single cut: which do I need?
For most steel, stainless and cast iron work, double cut. You get smaller chips, more control and a better finish. Single cut is for heavy, fast stock removal where finish matters less.
Can I use this set on aluminum?
For light deburring, yes. For heavy aluminum removal, double cut teeth can load up, so step up to our Alumi-Cut burrs.
Can I replace just one burr?
Yes. Every shape in this set is sold individually. See the links below.
